The short version: GoSatt works out which satellites are
overhead using your phone's location and motion sensors — entirely on your
device. That information never leaves your phone. The only thing GoSatt
sends over the internet is a request for a public satellite orbital-data
file; that request carries nothing about you.
Information GoSatt Uses
GoSatt needs a few pieces of information from your device to do its job.
All of it is processed locally, and none of it is transmitted anywhere:
Location (precise and approximate). Used to calculate
which satellites are currently visible from where you're standing, and
to show pass predictions for your position.
Device orientation and motion (compass and
accelerometer). Used to align the sky view with the direction you're
pointing your phone.
Favourited satellites. Saved in a file on your device
so your list persists between sessions. This list is never uploaded.
What GoSatt Sends Over the Internet
GoSatt periodically downloads a public satellite catalogue (orbital data
used to calculate positions) from a GitHub-hosted mirror of publicly
available Celestrak data. This request does not include your location,
device identifiers, or any other personal information — it's the same
file for every user, regardless of who's asking.
What GoSatt Doesn't Do
No account or sign-in is required or offered.
No advertising, and no advertising identifiers are used.
No analytics or tracking SDKs are included in the app.
No data is shared with, or sold to, third parties — because none is
collected off your device in the first place.
Data Retention and Your Control
Since GoSatt doesn't transmit or store your data on any server, there's
nothing for us to retain. Uninstalling the app removes everything it
stored locally, including your favourites and cached catalogue data.
Children's Privacy
GoSatt is a general-audience tool and isn't directed at children. We
don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the update will be posted on this page with a
revised "last updated" date above.
